New Disability Issues Newsgroup
Name of newsgroup: alt.disability.issues
**************************************************************************
I asked the alt.config group to send the appropriate cmsg to start this
group. It went through some review and discussion at alt.config and was
eventually created with the below charter. It is not a moderated group. I do
not "own" the group; I merely aided in its creation. It's my hope, however,
that disabled people will join this in addition to their specialized groups
so that we can discuss everything and anything in this newsgroup that
disabled people might want to discuss in a unified manner. I know other
groups get downright flame-some about what they consider to be "off topic"
or wind up being dominated by a few bullies. I am hoping posters to this
group will avoid such limitations. Remember: the more unified we are, the
less they can deny we have a voice.
If your newsgroup provider currently isn't providing this newsgroup, the
below information may assist you in getting them to add it to their
newsgroup server. Just write to this with the information or forward this
message with your comments at the top. They (meaning newsgroup server folks)
also use the below link in techno-jargon to describe when, how, where, etc.
the group was created.
Anyway, post away! I will try to add info as it comes to my attention.
***************************************************************************
For your newsgroups file: alt.disability.issues various disability
issue discussion
Charter:
Unmarked off-topic materials, binaries, advertising (spam), excessive
posting, cancel attacks, virus infected binaries, html-encoded postings, and
abusive cross postings are prohibited.
All posts (messages) must be in plain text only and be human-readable.
Justification of Readership:
A yahoo search yields 1,230,000 hits for disability discussion and 7,090,000
for disability.
The current .alt topics for disability are those with specific focuses on
the type of disability and/or Social Security. These specific focuses are
not enough to cover the wide-ranging needs and discussion needed for
disabled individuals.
The only existing generalized group on .alt that I can locate is
misc.handicap. Handicap is not a term that most disabled people accept or
search for when looking for a newsgroup.
