True. Many people such as yourself don't want to hear it.
These are clearly the 'reasons of record' for the coalition to
invade
Iraq!

Funny how you start a thread about the reasons we invaded and now
occupy a sovereign nation and you never once mention The Project for
The New American Century. Perhaps, if could take a break from the
name calling and quoting of George W. Bush, you could visit
www.newamericancentury.org and then YOU might have a deeper
understanding about why we are over there.
I don't think he wants a deeper understanding. It appears to me that
he wants to believe the fairy tales the administration tells to him.
It doesn't even seem to matter that the fairly tales keep changing.
There's someting about a "will to believe" operating there.
Ash, you might consider a little more understanding of the topic
yourself
Post by Ashland HendersonPost by HODbefore you start running of your mouth!
I have the understanding. I'd suggest you take your own advice to heart.
It's amazing......
Please read the declaration below and inform me of the parts that you cannot
comprehend!... show me the "fairy tales that keep changing."..... No need
for a "deeper understanding".... I sincerely believe an average 6th grader
could read and understand without difficulty.
Oh I can comprehend it. I do not think is is truthful or accurate and
in any case the rationale is taking place after the war had already been
sold. I have much the same trouble as you thinking that any average 6th
grader could understand that.

Office of the Press Secretary
March 19, 2003
President Bush Addresses the Nation
The Oval Office
10:16 P.M. EST
THE PRESIDENT: My fellow citizens, at this hour, American and coalition
forces are in the early stages of military operations to disarm Iraq, to
free its people and to defend the world from grave danger.
The world does not appear to have been in any grave danger from Iraq. As
to the "free its people" comment, that was not the rationale for the war
prior to this sudden speach nor was it the reason congress granted the
right to use force on Iraq.
Post by HODOn my orders, coalition forces have begun striking selected targets of
military importance to undermine Saddam Hussein's ability to wage war. These
are opening stages of what will be a broad and concerted campaign. More than
35 countries are giving crucial support -- from the use of naval and air
bases, to help with intelligence and logistics, to the deployment of combat
units. Every nation in this coalition has chosen to bear the duty and share
the honor of serving in our common defense.
Pure crap. We bought a number of nations, none of whom provided any particularly
important support. Most of whom were and are insignifigent in real political
and military terms. It's not a coalition of the willing, its a group of
beggers wanting handouts for basically non-existant support.
Post by HODTo all the men and women of the United States Armed Forces now in the Middle
East, the peace of a troubled world and the hopes of an oppressed people now
depend on you. That trust is well placed.
The enemies you confront will come to know your skill and bravery. The
people you liberate will witness the honorable and decent spirit of the
American military. In this conflict, America faces an enemy who has no
regard for conventions of war or rules of morality. Saddam Hussein has
placed Iraqi troops and equipment in civilian areas, attempting to use
innocent men, women and children as shields for his own military -- a final
atrocity against his people.
Kind of contradictory in tone. I admire the professonalism of the military
and its willingness to obey orders. The civilian administration that put them
where they are receives no congratulations from me. It remains to all those
willing to see with clear eyes a seriously flawed decision. At best.
Post by HODI want Americans and all the world to know that coalition forces will make
every effort to spare innocent civilians from harm. A campaign on the harsh
terrain of a nation as large as California could be longer and more
difficult than some predict. And helping Iraqis achieve a united, stable and
free country will require our sustained commitment.
I don't doubt that the forces involved made every effort to spare civilians.
I'm not at all clear that we are seriously helping the formation of a united,
stable and free country but I don't doubt that we have tried to do so.
Post by HODWe come to Iraq with respect for its citizens, for their great civilization
and for the religious faiths they practice. We have no ambition in Iraq,
except to remove a threat and restore control of that country to its own
people.
I don't see any such respect in our government. Respect as shown by guarding
the oil ministry and not the museums does not impress me. The comment about
no ambition is pure crap. Take a look at the documentation of the project
for a new american century and tell me about no ambition.
Post by HODI know that the families of our military are praying that all those who
serve will return safely and soon. Millions of Americans are praying with
you for the safety of your loved ones and for the protection of the
innocent. For your sacrifice, you have the gratitude and respect of the
American people. And you can know that our forces will be coming home as
soon as their work is done.
Don't have a problem with it although it is pretty clear that it is a sop
to those who actually care. It certainly doesn't seem to me that Bush does.
Post by HODOur nation enters this conflict reluctantly -- yet, our purpose is sure. The
people of the United States and our friends and allies will not live at the
mercy of an outlaw regime that threatens the peace with weapons of mass
murder. We will meet that threat now, with our Army, Air Force, Navy, Coast
Guard and Marines, so that we do not have to meet it later with armies of
fire fighters and police and doctors on the streets of our cities.
Pure crap. And purely disproving your point of why the war was started.
Our purpose is sure but it sure doesn't have anything to do with wmds. That's
what was sold to you and you bought it.
Post by HODNow that conflict has come, the only way to limit its duration is to apply
decisive force. And I assure you, this will not be a campaign of half
measures, and we will accept no outcome but victory.
Victory doesn't seem to be what we thought it was. Nor is it likely to
be so.
Post by HODMy fellow citizens, the dangers to our country and the world will be
overcome. We will pass through this time of peril and carry on the work of
peace. We will defend our freedom. We will bring freedom to others and we
will prevail.
We sure as hell won't do it with Bush at the helm.
Post by HODMay God bless our country and all who defend her.
Agreed. I fell nothing like the same however for those who drag her into
conflicts like this one for reasons which have nothing to do with defense.
